Welcome to the Fun Gramma Site

First Week without the Grandkids

Keep a stiff upper lip! How did that phrase come into being? I do not know, but as a fun gramma, I will keep my emotions in check. The grandkids have just moved across the country, but it is time to celebrate our good fortune- all the years we had together and all the memories we created. What does a fun gramma do when she comes across the left behind grandkid's paraphernalia? She smiles to herself, and remembers the good times with her kiddos, and she decides how she will create more of those good times as a virtual gramma!

First Week of Separation

Evidence of the kiddos lies around the house.  Gramma smiles at each item.  So many memories were made and we had so much fun.  How will Gramma recreate such good memories from a distance?  We will build this site and find ways to be a virtual Gramma! On the day the kids were flying out of Washington, Gramma Brooks mailed off individual cards to each grandchild.  The cards had funny pictures that pertained to each child.  One of the grandkids loved Gramma’s chickens so her card had a funny chicken picture on the front and a simple note inside.  (Note the kids still had not received the cards after five days).  Now, Gramma knows how long it will take to get packages to the grandkids across the country.  Since it seems to take five days for items to arrive, Gramma will send a special care package at five-day intervals for ten weeks.  The care package is filled with little dollar-store items.  Gramma will send each grandchild their own package so they can open them up independently.  To save money, Gramma ordered bubble envelopes from Amazon to contain the items.  The bubble envelopes cost about 0.65 cents each and are 9 in by 12in in size.  At the post office, these envelopes can be purchased for around 3 dollars.  This size will allow for a standard sheet of paper to fit inside.  The items for the first care package are a how-to-draw the child’s favorite animals, Disney stickers, washable colored markers, a dog toy, and a piece of Laffy Taffy (candy that will not melt).  This packet will be mailed through US Mail at a cost of $5.68.  The entire cost of this care package is about six dollars for postage, about one dollar for the envelope, and around four dollars for the dollar store items.  This is about eleven dollars for each child. I have two grandkids which will cost of twenty-two dollars every five days for 10 weeks or two hundred and twenty-two dollars. Virtual Gramma will need budget resources and figure out how to use them wisely.  It is fun for kids to get mail, especially from Gramma while they are getting new neighborhood friends.  Possibly they will meet their neighbors while going to the mailbox!
